ISLAND
London four-piece ISLAND are an Alternative guitar band whose history is characterised by old friendships, close bonds, and an almost telepathic mutual understanding. Forming as teenagers when frontman Rollo Doherty’s acoustic bedroom project was treated to the boisterous backing of guitarist Jack Raeder, bassist James Wolfe and drummer Toby Richards in a dingy windowless practice room where they began to painstakingly shape a sound which combined darkly twisting instrumental with a sweetly melodic song-writing nous that belied their age.
ISLAND's profile has grown internationally since releasing their debut EP 'Girl' back in 2015. Its’ stand out track 'Stargazer' turned heads immediately. Their follow up EP 'A Place You Like' (2017) continued their undeniable rise and further garnered new fans both domestically and internationally. They have since continued to receive numerous coveted streaming support across their catalogue on all platforms within the UK and outside. Accumulating over 20million streams on all their tracks on Spotify alone.
All this achieved while unsigned and maintaining a fastidiously DIY ethic. Now signed to New York tastemaker label Frenchkiss Records, ISLAND released their debut album 'Feels Like Air' to critical acclaim on 6th April 2018.
The band’s live show is fearsomely tight and effervescently energetic through years of playing together week in, week out since their youth. Over the course of little more than two years, they have sold out all their London shows to date, including Scala and Heaven. Selling out KOKO in April 2018 the recent highlight. They have toured extensively in the UK both headline and supporting Amber run. They have played at all the taste-maker festivals in the UK, including The Great Escape, Live at Leeds, Citadel, On The Road, TRNSMT. Not to mention headlining BBC Introducing stages at Reading and Leeds Festival.
ISLAND have seen support from a variety of UK press including DIY, NME, 405, DORK and Line Of Best Fit. Wonderland called them ‘One of the most exciting bands at the moment’ while Clash said “Impeccable indie newcomers”.
ISLAND have received support across BBC Radio 1 from Annie Mac and Huw Stephens, who called them ““The one band everyone is raving about”. Also BBC Introducing – including headlining their stage at Reading and Leeds Festival 2017, and BBC 6 Music and Radio X.
Summer 2018 they successfully headlined toured North America for the first time, touring 18 cities. ISLAND plan for a second US tour around the 2019 SXSW dates. Autumn 2019 there are planned tours of US, EU and Australia.
Spring 2019 ISLAND release a new EP, with second album penned for Autumn 2019 joined with a UK tour and their biggest London show yet.
